How It Works

The plugin gives Claude access to:

1. Cap table data — All companies, share classes, shareholders, and ownership percentages your account can access
2. Equity instruments — SAFEs, convertible notes, option grants, and their terms
3. Valuations — 409A valuations, financing rounds, and valuation history
4. Modeling tools — Pro-forma modeling, waterfall analysis, and conversion calculations

All queries are read-only — Claude can view and analyze your cap table data but cannot create, modify, or delete records.

Available Skills

The plugin includes the following skills that Claude uses to answer your questions:

Authentication

On first use, Claude will open a browser window asking you to log in with your Carta credentials. This is a one-time OAuth authorization:

1. You log in with your Carta username and password
2. Carta issues a secure access token
3. Claude uses that token for all subsequent cap table queries
4. Your credentials are not stored by Claude — only the access token is used

If you log out or the token expires, Claude will prompt you to re-authenticate.

Permissions & Data Access

Claude can only access cap table data that your Carta user account already has permission to view. This includes:

• Companies you own, manage, or hold equity in
• Cap tables shared with your user or team
• Public company data shared in your workspace

If you can't find a company or cap table in Claude, it's likely because:

1. Your Carta account doesn't have access to that company's cap table
2. The company hasn't been added to your Carta workspace yet
3. Your workspace admin hasn't shared the cap table with you

Contact your Carta admin or the company to request access if needed.

Limitations & Considerations

• Read-only access — Claude cannot create, modify, or delete cap table records
• Data freshness — Cap table data is as current as your Carta records; if records aren't updated in Carta, they won't be current in Claude
• Modeling is predictive — Pro-forma models show illustrative scenarios based on assumptions you provide; actual outcomes may differ
• Company identification — Large enterprises with many subsidiaries may require company name clarification when querying
